A mobile application to help people send photographs using cellphones, in case pictures are clicked during distribution of money and goods to the electorate by political parties is being developed by The Election Commission (EC).This is one of the efforts being made by the EC to curb money power during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“The mobile application would be available for use very soon,” Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said at a press conference at the Secretariat here on Saturday.
Already, the EC has announced separate e-mail addresses of all districts in Tamil Nadu using which citizens could send photos and evidence to prove distribution of allurements to voters. The CEO said, at present, in many cases, due to lack of evidence, violators could not be brought to book.
“Let all citizens join hands with us to end money power,” Praveen Kumar added.
Ajay Yadav, Joint CEO (IT), announced a new SMS facility for the voters to identify the location of their polling stations. All they have to do is to type EPIC and leave a space and type the EPIC number provided in their Voter Identity Card and SMS it to 9444123456.
