On Tuesday, there are 6 expenditure observers arrived from the Election Commission of India. They are set to monitor all the expenses pertaining to Parliamentary constituencies, and Perambur Assembly constituency. These officials will be clearly assessing all kinds of election-related expenses made by the candidates across Chennai. This is aimed at preventing corruptive expenses.
All kinds of corrupt practices by the candidates will be deeply studied, especially at areas including RK Nagar. And necessary steps for preventing such activities including cash distribution will be taken. Furthermore, the observers will be involved in checking out the current rate of printing, vehicle hiring charges, loudspeakers, pandal erection rates, furniture hiring charges, etc.
Recently, there were reports from RK Nagar residents that during the previous by election, they had received Rs 20 per head. Necessary facilities shall be provided for these observers to carry out their inspection. In another 3 days, the election observers are set to remain in Chennai city for performing their duties.
One of the officials said that they have instructed the bank officials to keep track of suspicious transactions that count more than Rs 10 lakh. In all the 4 locations where nomination filing is done, there will be video surveillance teams deployed to monitor the activities.
In the Corporation Regional Office at Basin Bridge, the Returning Officer office for Chennai North is set up. At the Corporation Regional Office in Shenoy Nagar, the Chennai Central Returning Officer shall accept nominations. Likewise, at the Regioal Office in Adyar, Chennai South Returning Officer shall receive nominations.
