31 More criminals Exiled from the City Limits - By the Chennai Police

To bring in an incident free poll in Chennai, the city police have drawn up many plans to exile tarnished criminals from the city.

As per the plan, two criminals out of 31 have already been sent out from the city; will soon rest of the criminals will be banished soon, says the police officials.

According to the Chennai Police Act, if an exiled criminal violates the condition and reenters the city, then he can be arrested and remanded up to 2 years in police custody.

Virugambakam police have initiated exiling proceedings against a notorious criminal, Karthigeyan, who has been involved in more than 20 cases. Similarly notice has been sent to other gundas like Ullagaram Dass and Mahesh.

Chennai police commissioner S George said that provision to send away the criminals is available in the century-old Chennai City Police Act, 1888. According to the section 51-A (1), it has been mentioned that the duration of the banishment may range from 6 months to 2 years.

The Chennai police commissioner George has ordered a team of about 132 police inspectors in the city to identify active notorious criminals.
