As per the instructions communicated by the state chief electoral officer, a copy of which was submitted before the Madras high court on Thursday, the commission said the design on the buses that resemble the AIADMK`s `two leaves` symbol should be masked. It, however, said the structure at the MGR memorial (that resembles two leaves) and the generic word `Amma` can stay. Metropolitan Transport Corporation have to comply with these orders. An MTC officer later said the corporation, if asked to do so, would mask the design in a day.
The letter was submitted in court which was hearing a petition from DMK deputy general secretary M K Stalin. He had found fault with the EC`s inaction on his representation against the AIADMK symbols and chief minister J Jayalalithaa`s photographs being displayed on small buses and Amma drinking water bottles. He had called them publicity at the cost of public money and unjust and undue advantage over other political parties.
