Southern Railway to Add 20 New MRTS Services - New Timetable Expected from May 1

Southern Railway is set to revamp the MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) timetable by adding 20 new train services, increasing total daily operations from 86 to 106 trains on the Velachery–Chennai Beach route.
The move comes in response to commuter demand following disruptions caused by the Egmore–Chennai Beach fourth line project, which had reduced service frequency to 25 minutes due to operational constraints on a single track.
With the project now completed in January 2025, officials say the new schedule aims to improve frequency to every 15 minutes during peak hours, enhancing convenience for thousands of commuters.
Although a formal launch date is pending, sources suggest the new timetable may be implemented from May 1 (May Day).
