On Thursday, diwali was celebrated with huge happiness in Chennai. The Chennai residents burst fire crackers and many places were filled with smoke and dust. As a result, the air pollution has increased considerably during deepavali in the city.

It is worth mentioning that AQI between 200 and 300 would be poor and it would lead to breathing issues on prolonged exposure. This was mentioned by the Central Pollution Control Based or CPCB.

In the last 24 hours AQI in Chennai is 190 and this was at 7am on Thursday. It is said that AQI between 100 and 200 would be moderate with breathing discomfort for those with lung and heart diseases etc. At Kodungaiyur and in Velachery, air pollution levels increased.

It must be noted that in Gummidipoondi in Thiruvallur district AQI is 204 and 154 in Chengalpet, 148 in Cuddalore, 148 in Coimbatore etc. It has been pointed out by CPCB that AQI between 51 and 100 would be considered satisfactory with minor breathing discomfort in sensitive persons.
