Posted on: 17/Oct/2024 2:16:21 PM

Windergy India 2024, the country’s premier wind energy trade fair and conference, will take place from October 23-25, 2024, at the Chennai Trade Centre, Tamil Nadu.

More than 300 exhibitors from across the world will showcase cutting-edge solutions, reaffirming India`s commitment to renewable energy and its Net Zero 2070 goals.

Organized by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and PDA Ventures Pvt Ltd, Windergy India 2024 is supported by the Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Niti Aayog, and recognized under the `Make in India` initiative.

As India emerges as a global leader in renewable energy, the nation proudly stands as the fourth-largest country in wind energy installations. At the forefront of this achievement is Tamil Nadu, the state with the highest number of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) manufacturing units in India.

With climate change accelerating and global temperatures rising, the transition to renewable energy is more crucial than ever. Windergy India 2024 arrives as part of India’s robust response to the climate crisis. Wind energy is at the heart of this transformation, and India, the fourth-largest country in wind energy installations, is leading the charge.

Key Focus

Tamil Nadu`s strategic advantages, including proximity to wind-rich zones, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and a skilled workforce, have solidified its position as a global hub for wind energy innovation and development. Windergy India 2024 will also highlight skill development through dedicated sessions aligned with Tamil Nadu`s Naan Mudhalvan initiative, which promotes career development in the renewable energy sector. The three-day event will also feature international pavilions from Denmark, Spain, and the United Kingdom, underscoring the global focus on advancing wind energy.

India’s offshore wind potential of over 500 GW, led by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, will be a key highlight. The approval of 1 GW offshore wind projects under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, with an outlay of Rs. 7,453 crores, reinforces the nation’s renewable energy commitment. Of this, Rs. 6,853 crores is allocated for project installation, which will generate 3.72 billion units of renewable electricity annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 2.98 million tons. This initiative not only jumpstarts offshore wind development but also paves the way for 37 GW of future capacity, with investments of Rs. 4,50,000 crores.

Conference Agenda

The two-day conference, themed "Wind: Powering India’s Energy Transition", will feature sessions on critical topics such as policy frameworks, technology trends, innovative auction mechanisms, and investment strategies. Industry leaders and policymakers will discuss India`s path to achieving its 2030 renewable energy goals, while exploring new financing avenues to drive the sector’s growth.h.

International delegations, including the Green Hydrogen Association (GH2), Invest in Denmark, and the British High Commission, will participate in roundtable discussions, providing a global perspective on the future of wind energy.

Mr. K.R. Nair, Director of Emergya Wind Technologies, emphasized the importance of government support in the wind energy sector`s growth, stating “The Wind Energy Industry is growing rapidly, backed by a global push to reach Net Zero emissions. In India, the targets fixed by the Government of India for wind energy by 2030 can be strived by the industry only if the Government continues with the pro-active policies and incentives”

“Currently, the exemption on customs duty for specific components and raw materials is the only remaining incentive for manufacturers, but it is proposed to be withdrawn in 2025. We expect that the government will continue with this concession, at least until the target year of 2030.” he added.

Windergy India 2024 is set to be a landmark event in India`s renewable energy journey. We invite all stakeholders, professionals, and enthusiasts from the wind energy sector to participate in this transformative event.
