Vandalur zoo in Chennai is one of the most frequently visited places by the public for relaxation. Usually in the summer vacations and on holidays etc, Vandalur zoo would have many visitors.
The news that has emerged is that under the animal exchange programme one more male Bengal tiger was received by Vandalur zoo from Mangalore zoo. Approval has been given for this animal exchange between Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur and Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula biological park, Mangaluru by the New Delhi based The Central Zoo Authority.
The release from the Vandakur zoo director has stated that between 1st of May and 5th of May both the zoos have carried out the exchange programme. It is worthy to note that the Arignar Anna Zoological Park has sent a female white tiger and a female ostrich along with the team of veterinarian, biologists and uniformed staff. The Chennai based zoo had received 2 pairs of wild dogs, one male Bengal tiger, 2 pairs of checkered keelback snakes and a pair of white takers boa.
Information gathered is that both Chennai and Mangalore zoo received the approved animal safety and the animals were kept in a quarantine unit. The animals would be shifted to their enclosures after quarantine.
