To build a network from Koyambedu to Avadi and to extend it to Pattabiram to help many suburban residents, CMRL would submit a detailed project report or DPR. In February, CMRL would hand over the report to the TN government. This was as per an officer from CMRL.
He spoke about how after handing over the report to the govt a decision would be taken regarding implementing it. Information is that soil tests are being conducted now. Little beyond Pattabiram, a depot would be established. It is learnt that some officials from CML have inspected the site for the proposed depot. The official concluded that by February the report would be completed fully.
Details about the network:
It is learnt that the Pattabiram- Koyambedu network would have a length of nearly 19kms and stations that are planned in this stretch are Koyambedu, Padi Pudhu Nagar, Park Road, Vavin, Ambattur Estate bus stand, Dunlop, Ambattur railway station, Ambattur OT bus stand, Thirumulaivoyal, Avadi and Pattabiram. The work would cost about Rs 6300 cr.
It must be noted that the residents from places like Avadi, Ambattur, Pattabiram and Thirumullaivoyal were unhappy regarding the fact that most of the Chennai city has been covered in metro phase-1, phase 1 extension and metro phase 2 but their areas were not considered.
According to a resident from Avadi, travelling would be tedious and exhausting if people have to come from places like Avadi, Pattabiram etc to core places in Chennai for their work sake. She added that she was unable to travel to and fro for her office for about 4 hours and hence she quit her job. She concluded that travel time and journey would make a huge difference to a person`s life.
According to a resident from Pattabiram, if the TN government focuses on creating jobs in Chennai and in TN then they must focus on improving transport also. He explained how a new Tidel Park was opened in Pattabiram and how the govt is still just planning for metro rail link to these areas. He was of the view that more buses were required and hoped metro rail would connect the Chennai suburbs at the earliest.
Traffic congestion is on the rise in localities like Avadi, Pattabiram and Thirumullaivoyal etc and there is now an urgent need to focus on building infrastructure to improve mobility. This was brought out by a resident from Thirumullaivoyal.
