The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has resolved 100% of public grievances through Rail Madad and CPGRAMS for 2023-24 and 2024-25 (up to December), announced Divisional Railway Manager B. Vishwanath Eerya during the 76th Republic Day celebrations.
The division achieved record revenue of ₹4,513 crores in 2023-24 and ₹3,300 crores in 2024-25 (up to December) while handling 11.5 lakh daily passengers, including 8.5 lakh suburban commuters.
Key developments include:
- Proposal for a fourth coach terminal station between Perambur and Villivakkam submitted for approval.
- ₹200 crore redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at 17 stations.
- 27 foot overbridges planned at ₹160 crores.
Chennai Division operated 19,761 special trains in 2023-24 and 17,101 so far this year, achieving 88% punctuality. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued 726 children and saved 28 passengers over two years. Passenger amenities worth ₹95 crores were completed, surpassing last year’s ₹72 crores.
Sectional speeds have increased to 130 km/h on key routes, with upgrades underway on the Chennai Egmore–Villupuram section.
