In a historic milestone, the Chennai Corporation collected ₹2,025 crore in property tax during the last financial year (2023-24), surpassing ₹2,000 crore for the first time. This marks an increase of ₹275 crore from the previous year’s ₹1,750 crore collection.

With a target of ₹2,000 crore set for 2024-25, the corporation intensified tax collection efforts, conducting house-to-house visits and special tax camps, even during government holidays. Under the leadership of Municipal Revenue Officer Bhanu Chandran, tax collection continued at Ripon Building until midnight on March 31.

Additionally, ₹570 crore in business tax was collected, ₹38 crore more than the previous year. From April 1, a 2% interest will be levied on overdue property tax payments. However, property owners who clear their first-half tax dues by April 30 can avail a 5% discount, up to a maximum of ₹5,000.
