The Madras High Court`s directive to limit tourist vehicle entries into Ooty begins today. A cap of 6,000 vehicles on weekdays and 8,000 on weekends has been imposed. Local vehicles are exempt from the restriction. This will remain in effect until June, the peak tourist season.
The move, which also includes the continuation of the mandatory e-pass system, has been criticized by the Nilgiris District Traders Association. The association plans a complete shutdown on April 2, citing the impact on local businesses and tourism.
Additionally, to accommodate the expected surge in summer tourists, film shoots are prohibited in eight Horticulture Department-maintained gardens, including the Government Botanical Garden and SIMS Park, from April to May.
