The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded that the seal of quality Hallmark should also be given to 20-karat gold jewellery.
CAIT has sent a letter regarding this demand to the central minister for consumer affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan. It mentions that the central government is already reviewing regarding making Hallmark seal compulsory for the quality of the gold jewellery made in 14, 18, and 22 karats from January.
The above 3 quality standards are being followed at international level. However, it is better to establish new standards of quality in India as well. In order to establish the quality/purity of the gold, it is essential that the gold jewellery made in 20-karat gold with 88.30% purity must also be given the Hallmark seal.
This measure would facilitate the economically backward section also to buy gold jewellery at their preferred quality. This measure will also strengthen the trust between the trader and the buyers and the responsibility of honest business.
