Many commuters use the Madras- Tiruvallur High Road. Here, concrete blocks have been placed near the barricades of metro rail phase 2 works and this has led the motorists to a bottleneck situation. As a result, the flow of traffic has got disrupted here creating problems.
There is now an improper traffic flow management at this important stretch and this was as per many residents and commuters. This has led to the motorists waiting for a long time and pedestrians have been squeesing past the hurdles inbetween high vehicular movement.
The recent Cyclone Fengal has been responsible for this situation now at this important stretch. It must be taken into account that during the intense rains caused by the cyclone 2 concrete barricades were placed near to one of the traffic signals on the MTH road. The reason was.to drain the rainwater. The bottleneck at this crucial MTH road was due to non removal of the concrete blocks.
As the traffic signal near the TNHB was turned off for couple of days, the commuters have to take a longer U turn. This was according to a resident. He was of the view that driving would be much easier if the Chennai Corporation removes the obstruction.
It was later brought out by an officer from GCC that the works to clear a blocked drain was going on and due to that 2 concrete blocks were placed in the middle of the road. He added that in couple.of days the concrete blocks would be removed.
A traffic signal near the TNHB has been blocked due to the metro rail construction. This was according to an official from CMRL. The traffic signal would be reopened once the work gets completed.
