With 2 more toll plazas to be opened on the ECR or East Coast Road, travelling from Villupram to Mayiladuthurai would be costlier hereafter.
The new toll plazas would be coming up at places like Gangarampalayam and Kothatai on the ECR. By this, the number of toll plazas in TN would be 72.
It is noteworthy that 2 new toll plazas would open on the 123km stretch of ECR that is being converted into a 4 lane road.
At a huge cost around Rs 6000crores, the widening project of 179.6 km has been undertaken is known. Point to be noted is that the Villupuram- Mayiladuthurai stretch is a part of this project.
In the future, there would be better connectivity to places like Pondicherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram etc.
Following the completion of the road widening works, new toll plazas were notified. This was mentioned by an NHAI official.
Information gathered is that the toll plaza at Gangarampalayam would come up at the 28km Villupuram- Pondicherry stretch. The toll plaza at Kothadai would come up on the 56.8 km Poondiankuppam- Sattanathapuram stretch.
It was later mentioned by an official that the work on the 55.75 km Sattanathapuram to Nagapattinam stretch is underway. He added that about 55 per cent of the road widening work was completed and by October full work would get completed. He concluded that after the completion of road widening works a third toll plaza would come up at Sattanathapuram in Mayiladuthurai.
The 38km 4 laning of Pondicherry to Poondiankuppam section was completed but safety audit is pending. This was as per some NHAI officials.
It is now said that for a one-way trip cars, jeeps, fans and other LMV would gave to pay Rs125 at the toll plaza in Kothadai. This was mentioned in the notification from NHAI.
