In several residential localities in Chennai, there are micro composting centres and waste recovery facilities etc. The news is that GCC would be closing these located in the residential areas.
It must be taken into account that the residents have complained about the stench or bad smell and health issues caused due to processing of waste near houses.
To prevent pollution, GCC would close 168 out of 190 micro-composting centres in congested residential places in the city In addition the waste recovery facilities in 88 out of 137 locations in Chennai would also be closed. It is also brought to light that waste processing units at the crematoriums would also be shut down.
