Not every student who has completed high school pursues higher education in the colleges in TN. Shocking but true!!

The news now is that the school education dept has joined hands with Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation or TNSDC with an important aim of transitioning every higher school student into collegiate education. Information gathered is that they would be conducting a 2phase programmes namely `Kallori Kanavu` and `Uyarvukku Padi` in May month across Tamil Nadu.

In the first week of May, Kalloori Kanavu or College Dream would be conducted. In the last week of May or in the first week of June, Uyarvukku Padi would be conducted. This was according to some officers belonging to TNSDC.

It is learnt that in the last 2 years a total of 77752 students have been enrolled in the higher educational institutes. Especially the students belonging to the vulnerable section of communities would be reached out by the2 initiatives like Kalloori Kanavu and Uyarvukku Padi.

Support as well as guidance would be provided to the students by Kalloori Kanavu and Uyarvukku Padi initiatives. Those students who dropped plans to pursue higher studies would be tracked also.

It must be taken into account that under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, Kalloori Kanavu (with its take away from 2022)provides career guidance to support and empower students who have recently passed class 12. More than 75000 students benefited from the scheme in 2022 and this was as per TNSDC. In May 2024, the edition was held in over 38 districts for providing career guidance to more than 1.12 lakh students.

To address the important issue of the students dropping out higher education, Uyarvukku Padi scheme was introduced. It was revealed by an official data that in 2022-23 academic year that out of more than 3.97lakh class 12 students 2.39lakh have enrolled for higher education. Bitter fact is that more than 1.13lakhs students did not apply for any college or provided insufficient data.

In the next academic year that is 2023-24, out of a total of 3.37lakhs class 12 students just over 1.97lakhs have applied for college. Truth is that around 1.34 lakh students either did not apply or provide enough details during college admission. TNSDC conducted the drive across the state of TN to ensure enrolment of 2.47lakh students from 2023 and 2024 academic years.

As per the MD-TNSDC, Mr. Kranthi Kumar it was clear that after the board exams results would be declared and these programmes would also start.
