Prospects for heavy rain with thunder in 4 districts!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rain with thunder in the next 48 hours in 4 districts - Nagappattinam, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Thanjavur.

As per the report from the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, and as shared by the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, N. Puviyarasan:

“Due to the cyclonic format developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Kanyakumari Ocean section and the adjacent Sri Lanka section, there are prospects for heavy rain with thunder in a few places in the 4 districts of Nagappattinam, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Thanjavur. There are prospects for medium rain with thunder in several places in other coastal districts and Puducherry.  There are prospects for mild rain with thunder in several places in the interior districts.

As regards the Chennai Metro City, there are prospects for medium rain with thunder in a few places.”

As at 8.30 AM on Wednesday (16th December), over the last 24 hours, a maximum rainfall of 10 cm has been recorded in Thondi, Ramanathapuram District. Rainfall recorded in other places in mm: Kudavasal, Thiruvarur District and Vattalam, Ramanathapuram District- 60 each, Nagappattinam Mannarkudi, Thiruthuraippondi, Vedaranyam, Thiruvapanai, Cuddalore, Adiramapaatinam, Thanjavur District – 50 each.
