Many parts of Chennai have been receiving light to moderate rainfall since the early hours of Tuesday (today, 5th January).
These rains have been due to an easterly wave or an elongated region of relatively low-pressure zone.
The weathermen informed that the rainfall, which started around 2.00 AM today, is likely to continue for a few more hours.
As at 8.30 AM on Tuesday (today, 5th January), Nungambakkam has recorded a rainfall of 63 mm and Meenambakkam has received a rainfall of 44.6 mm. The above easterly wave has also been bringing rainfall to other coastal areas like Kanyakumari, Nagappattinam, and Thoothukkudi.
Chennai Metro City: Until 7.15 AM, Taramani, Villivakkam, and Puzhal areas received a rainfall of 27.5 mm each. The automatic weather station at |Ennore recorded a rainfall of 28 mm.
Many areas including roads around Kathipara flyover has been flooded due to this incessant rain.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains in some areas. The sky will be generally cloudy for the next 24 hours. |The maximum temperature will be 29 Degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 24 Degrees Celsius.
