The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rain with lightning and thunder in a few places in the coastal districts of the State of Tamil Nadu.
In a notification released regarding th3e above by the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, it is mentioned:
”Due to the cyclonic format developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere, there are prospects for mild to medium rain in a few places on Thursday (7th |January) and Friday (8th January) in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikkal.
On Saturday, 9th January, there are prospects for heavy rains with lightning and thunder in 1 or 2 paces in the coastal Tamil Nadu districts and medium rain in other districts and mild to medium rain in several places in the interior districts.
As regards the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs, it would remain cloudy on Thursday (7th January) and there are prospects for mild to medium rain in some parts of the city.
Warning for fishermen: As high-speed winds at 45 kmph to 55 kmph is likely to bow in the southeast and central-east of the Arabian Sea, fishermen are warned NOT to venture into the sea.
Rainfall:
As at 9.00 AM on Wednesday, 6th January in the previous 24 hours, a maximum rainfall of 210 mm has been recorded in Kenambakkam, Chengalpattu District. Rainfall recorded in other places: Chennai District Anna University & Tambaram, Chengalpattu District – 160 mm each, Chennai MGR Nagar – 150 mm, Chennai Sholinganallur, DGP Office – 140 mm each, Thiruvallur Chembarambakkam, Poonamallee, Korattur, Chennai Taramani ARG, and Airport – 130 mm each.
