The heavens opened and rains poured on Friday in Chennai bringing huge relief!!
The low pressure near Odisha would be responsible for the rains to continue in Chennai for the next 2 days. This was as per the regional meteorological department. It is clear that the trekkers and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until 12th July. According to Mr. N. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC there would be thunderstorms with heavy rains for the next 2days in the Western Ghats including the districts like the Nilgris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi.
Districts like Erode, Tiruppur, Thiruvannamamalai, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar would receive light to moderate rains. On Friday, 9th July, TN on an average received14.9 mm rains. In Chennai, the sky would be partly cloudy and thunderstorms with light rain would occur in a few places.
Information is that the maximum temperature would be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature would be around 26 degrees Celsius. From the data belonging to RMC it was clear that the highest rainfall was recorded in Kallakurichi district (14 cm rainfall) and was followed by districts like Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram with 11cms of rainfall each. Point is that 3cms of rainfall was recorded in Chennai.
