Chennai Records Hottest Day of the Year

Chennai experienced its hottest day of 2024 on March 6, with temperatures soaring above normal levels. Nungambakkam recorded 36.4°C and Meenambakkam hit 37.7°C, exceeding seasonal averages by 3.6°C and 4.3°C, respectively. Across Tamil Nadu, 11 weather stations recorded temperatures above 37°C, with Erode being the hottest at 39.2°C. The IMD predicts temperatures to remain 2-3°C above normal until March 10, with dry conditions persisting in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until March 9. Following this forecast, the Directorate of Public Health has issued a heat advisory, urging pregnant women, infants, outdoor workers, and individuals with health conditions to take extra precautions.
