In the last 15 long years, this May 2021 has been the coolest in Chennai. This has been confirmed by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. Mr. N. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre spoke about how in the summer season wind normally blows from north- west but in 2021 the wind sea breeze was received from east. No ground air was received. Truth is that due to this the maximum temperature didn’t cross 37 degrees Celsius until 26th May 2021.In the last 3 days. Chennai recorded 40 degrees Celsius due to the change of wind pattern.
He explained that in the next 3 days in Chennai, Kancheepuram plus in Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Madurai, Trichy, Tiruvannamalai etc the maximum temperature would increase by 2 or 3 degrees Celsius to 40-41 degrees Celsius. After 2 days, there would be conventional rainfall but the temperature would remain around 40 degrees in the daytime. Later on, there would be gradual reduction in the temperatures. Isolated places over TN, Puducherry and Karaikal would have rains along with thunderstorms. For the next 48 hours, the northern districts are likely to receive heavy rains.
The average temperature in May month in 2021 was 35.94 degrees Celsius and this was as per Mr. Pradeep John, weather blogger. It must be noted that for 22 days the temperature was below 36 degrees. This was the highest number of days recorded with temperatures below 36 degrees.
Maximum temperatures of 38.5 degrees Celsius and 38.8 degrees Celsius were recorded in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam yesterday.
