Chennai and its suburban areas have experienced significant disruptions in daily life due to heavy rainfall since the morning hours. The region has been affected by light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in various places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. This weather pattern is attributed to variations in westerly wind speeds, with heavy rain occurring in isolated locations, particularly in the hilly regions of Coimbatore district, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Salem, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Trichy, and Namakkal districts, according to a statement from a research center.
Specifically, heavy rains have been reported in several areas within Chennai, including OMR Road, Sholinganallur, Chemmancherry, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Taramani, Velachery, Palavakkam, Kottivakkam, Thiruvanmiyur, Pallikaranai, Medavakkam, Ottiambakkam, Chitlapakkam, Nungambakkam, Porur, Poonamallee, and others.
