Varied Weather Patterns Grip Tamil Nadu: Heat Wave, Rainfall Surpluses, and Coastal Warnings!
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts a 2-3°C increase in maximum temperatures across parts of Tamil Nadu until June 20, attributed to a trough extending from Rayalaseema to the central Bay of Bengal. Despite recent below-normal temperatures, with Madurai reaching 39°C on June 11, temperatures are expected to stabilize near normal over the next three days. Coastal and interior districts will see temperatures ranging from 32°C to 36°C, while the plains will range from 28°C to 32°C.
Chennai residents can expect cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain in the evenings and nights over the next two days. Coastal areas and districts near the Western Ghats are also likely to experience rain due to a cyclonic circulation over the sea.
Fishermen are advised to avoid going to sea until Thursday, as squally weather with winds of 35-45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h, is expected over the Gulf of Mannar and adjacent southern coastal regions.
From June 1 to 16, during the southwest monsoon, Tamil Nadu recorded 64.6 mm of rainfall, which is 115% above average. Virudhunagar district noted the highest surplus with 42.7%.
