The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted light to moderate rainfall in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu today (October 22) until 10 AM. Districts expected to receive rainfall include Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukottai, Madurai, Dindigul, Tirupur, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchy, and Thanjavur. These regions are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning as well.
The rainfall is attributed to an upper atmospheric circulation over the region, according to the weather department’s bulletin.
Additionally, a low-pressure area formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal on Monday morning, under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation. This system is expected to move northwest and strengthen into a depression today (October 22), and likely intensify into a cyclone named Dana by October 23. The cyclone is projected to cross the Odisha-West Bengal coasts by the morning of October 24, the RMC stated.
