Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for Tamil Nadu: Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal to Intensify
The low-pressure area that has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean along the equator continues to persist in the same location, delaying its intensification into a deep depression. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours.
As the weather system develops, Tamil Nadu is bracing for heavy rainfall over the next four days. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Chennai on December 12, predicting intense spells of rain in the capital city.
Districts Under Heavy Rainfall Alert
Apart from Chennai, at least 12 other districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to experience significant rainfall. These include:

- Kancheepuram
- Kallakurichi
- Ariyalur
- Perambalur
- Thanjavur

- Mayiladuthurai
- Nagapattinam
- Pudukkottai
- Sivaganga
- Ramanathapuram
Orange Alert for Three Districts
An orange alert has been issued for Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Cuddalore districts on Thursday, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in these regions.
