Higher Education Department or HED would be setting up EV or electric vehicle labs in 3 govt engineering colleges in places like Tirunelveli, Erode and Dharmapuri. It is said that these EV labs would meet the industrial requirements. An amount of Rs 3 cr would be spent on this.

It is known that currently EV labs are present only in educational institutions like IIT or NIT or in the deemed universities etc.  Point to be noted is that electric vehicles are considered as the most useful method for combating increase in carbon footprints. The carbon footprints are generated in the vehicular emissions. This was according to a senior officer from HED.

Implementing policies to promote EV would play a huge role in the preservation of fuels in India. The students with EV skills have more job opportunities. Hence, 3 EV labs would be set up in 3 govt engg colleges.

Hands-on practical training, developing skill sets, creating internship programmes plus carrying out research works in the field of EV tech for the students etc would be provided by experts present in the EV labs.

It is learnt that each EV lab would have a 2 wheeler work area, EV motor test region, wielding station, battery service machines etc.
