The differently able persons and senior citizens in Chennai have been finding it easy with the low floor buses. It is true that MTC has done superbly by purchasing 502 low floor buses and they cover 98 routes. The issue now is that the residents belonging to places like Semmenchery and Kanagi Nagar in Chennai are not happy regarding limited buses operating in their localities. It is brought out that there is now just one low floor bus operating from Perumbakkam and other above said localities have been ignored by MTC.

It was mentioned by a policy researcher (at Reach the Unreached) Mr. Joel Shelton that MTC continues to ignore the needs of resettlement sites such as Perumbakkam, Semmencherry and Kanagi Nagar etc in Chennai. He spoke about how MTC operates 570 buses from Perumbakkam to Koyambedu and how there were many residents who go to Broadway for work sake. He has even requested MTC to operate low floor buses for the differently abled and senior persons who want to go to Broadway from Perumbakkam.

Not many would know that in the Perumbakkam and Chemmenchery resettlement sites more than 27000 families have relocated. Point is that the major mode of transport for these residents is the MTC buses.

President of December 3 movement professor Deepaknathan mentioned that MTC must consider resettlement sites like Perumbakkam, Semmencherry and Kanagi Nagar also. He concluded that many senior persons and differently able persons would benefit by that.
