If things go well as per the plans, then in the future we might come across a new bus terminus near the NH in Tambaram!!
It is a well known fact that Tambaram is regarded as the gateway of Chennai due to the railway terminal and it is always overcrowded. At the Tambaram railway station, many trains that go to southern places in TN stop. Passengers take buses from Tambaram to go to their destinations.
The news that has emerged out now is that Tambaram Corporation has taken an important decision of constructing a new bus terminus at a cost of R s6.5 cr. This new bus terminus would be constructed near the National Highway or NH to reduce traffic congestion.
Point is that the bus stop at Tambaram is very small to handle many passengers. This has resulted in heavy traffic congestion on the NH especially during the peak hours. The roadside vendors have encroached the road side bus stop and due to this the bus drivers halt the buses on the highway to pick up and drop the passengers.
In this scenario, the Tambaram Corporation and district administration have jointly decided to construct a new bus terminus of 1.98m in length. An amount of Rs 6.55 cr would be spent for this.
On 7th March, Tambaram Corporation would be floating a tender for constructing a new bus terminal near the NH. It must be noted that in September the work is expected to be completed.
Yesterday, 12th February, Mr. Arun Raj, Chengalpet district collector made his presence felt at this place where the new bus terminal would be constructed. He discussed various things about this construction with some officials belonging to the Tambaram Corporation.
