With many residents in Chennai these days depending on the online food delivery and e-commerce delivery for their requirements, there are more gig workers now travelling to every nook and corners of Chennai under the scorching heat or heavy rains etc. Soon, there would be huge relief for these gig workers working under extreme weather conditions in Chennai as GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has now come out with a sensational plan.
It is now brought out that GCC would be constructing air-conditioned rest areas for the gig workers who are involved in the food delivery and e-commerce delivery on some important roads in Chennai.
It is worthy to note that these kinds of air-conditioned rest areas are available in Dubai. In the important residential localities in Chennai like Anna Nagar, Nungambakkam, Royapettah, Mylapore, T. Nagar etc, the engineers from GCC are working on the design for the construction of rest areas.
According to a GCC official it was clear that the model would be based on the air-conditioned rest areas launched in Dubai. It was revealed by a worker that more women would benefit from food delivery and ecommerce delivery due to the upcoming air-conditioned rest areas on the roads. It must be taken into account that women constitute 10% of the strength of gig workers. These women workers do not have access to toilets in many locations in the city. They face issues regarding safety. The upcoming air-conditioned rest areas would provide the much needed safety and security for the women gig workers.
