As the case about Jallikkattu is still pending in the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi categorically informed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr O. Panneerselvam that nothing can be done in the present situation.
The protest against Jallikkattu ban is strongly intensifying spreading throughout Tamil Nadu. In this scenario, the Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam left for New Delhi. He had a discussion with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his residence in Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi today (Thursday, 19th January).
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam stressed on the emergency to find an amicable solution through an emergency ordinance to allow jallikkattu to be conducted in Tamil Nadu. He explained about the strong feelings and the protests of Tamilians throughout the state on this issue.
The Prime Minister listened to the Chief Ministers appeal and explained that he is aware that Jallikkattu is a long tradition and a symbol of the Tamil Culture.The Prime Minister is very much aware of the cultural importance of jallikkattu.
However, the case is still pending in the Supreme Court thus preventing the possibility to take any emergency steps.However, the Prime Minister assured full support to the initiatives taken by the Tamil Nadu State Government.
