Famous Avaniyapuram Jallikattu commences

One of the most important typical sports of Tamil tradition and culture reflecting the valour, Jallikattu has commenced as a competitive event and is in progress. The district collector Natarajan inaugurated the vent by flagging off.

There was an issue faced as to who should organise the jallikattu event in Avaniyapuram, Madurai district - Thenkal Pasana Vivasayigal Sangam or the village residents?

Subsequently, a committee headed by the retired judge Raghavan (Madurai branch High Court) was formed and arrangements were made for organizing the jallikattu event.

Thus, the district collector Raghavan inaugurated the jallikattu today (Tuesday, 15th January) at 9.00 AM by flagging off.

A lot of brave youth with the ambition to tame the bulls and the bulls which go all out not to be tamed are in the fray in this event. 75 competitors will be sent to the field of the event every hour on a rotation basis.

500 youth and 691 bulls are participating in this traditionally famous jallikattu competition, reflecting the Tamilian valour,

A medical check-up and insurance coverage have been arranged for the competitors of the event on behalf of the district administration.

On behalf of the Cattle Maintenance department, 6 squads have been formed headed by Avaniyapuram veterinary doctor Saravanan. 2 mobile medical squads are in alert mode. 2 ambulances are kept ready in case required.

In a similar arrangement, 10 medical squads headed by Dr Anand are ready and in the alert mode to attend to the injured bull-tamers. 15 ambulances belonging to both the government and private and fire-fighting vehicles are kept ready and in alert mode.

Further, temporary water-tanks have been set up for the drinking water facility for the public.10 giant screens have been set up screening the event to facilitate the public to watch the event.

10 CCTV monitoring cameras have been set up in different locations including Vadivasl and the spectators` gallery.

The famous jallikattu event, organised this time under the monitoring of a committee headed by a retired judge, is thus organise in a safe manner.

It has been announced that the competition would be conducted until 4.00 PM today. 1095 police squad headed by the Madurai Police Commissioner Davidson Aasirvatham has been deployed for security.

The bull-tamers have been strictly instructed not to cross the boundaries and also not grip the horns or tail of the bulls.

For the winners in the competition, a separate office has been set up in the corporation office complex where the prizes are to be distributed with proper receipts.

It is noteworthy that Avaniyapuram is in the 3rd place among the most famous jallikattu events organised after Alankanallur and Palamedu.
