RBI gives a ‘go ahead’ to print Rs 200 notes, say recent reports. The banking regulator, Reserve Bank of India has given its nod for printing of the new denomination note and expects the work to begin after June this year.
It is believed the RBI’s Central Board has approved this proposal. During March this year, the proposal was approved. Printing of these new Rs 200 notes is on the cards, and will begin after June upon receiving assent from the Modi government.
There are 14 members with the RBI Central Board. This includes Governor Urjit Patel, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das, four deputy governors of the central bank, and Financial Services Secretary Anjuly Chib Duggal.
A large anti-black money movement and anti-counterfeiting measure was made during November last year. Over 86 percent of the total currency in circulation were scrapped during the demonetization movement. After this, the RBI had started rolling out new high value notes for usage.
