The India Postal Department officials informed that a new chip-embedded ATM cards will be given to over the 1 Crore customers with Post Office Savings Accounts.
There are 1.56 Lakhs Post Offices in India. There are 4 Regional Post Offices in Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatorte, and Trichy.
12185 Post Offics, including 94 Head Post Offices, are functioning in the state. Apart from the post related services, the bank services, ATM services, and Passport issue services are also functioning.
Saving Account was introduced in the Postal sector with a minimum balance of Rs. 50. ATM cards are issued to the account holders. There are no restrictions on the number of times cash is withdrawn from these ATMs. There are no service charges either. With these concessions and facilities, the public has become enthusiastic and is eager to open savings accounts in the Post Offices.
There are over 1 Crores Post Office Saving Account holders in the state of Tamil Nadu. They have all been given ATM cards.
In a recent development, new ATM cards with embedded chips are to be issued to the above saving account holders. With this, the customers can use the ATM card in petrol bunks, hotels, and other stores. The officials informed that the new ATM cards can be used for several purposes.
