It is known that the city of Chennai is highly populated now with huge traffic and the most common mode of transport preferred by the people is travelling by buses. The good news that has emerged now is at the Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC depots people commuting would be able to see digital signboards that would show the arrival, departure plus other important information.

CSCL or Chennai Smart City Limited has proposed passenger information systems and this would be making its presence felt in as many as 10 bus depots soon. The various bus depots in Chennai that would have this are Anna Nagar (West), Vadapalani, Adyar, Saidapet, CMBT, Broadway, Tambaram, T.Nagar, Tondiarpet and Thiruvottiyur. It is important to note that the above bus depots are busiest depots in the city of Chennai. It is also said that the information boards would be integrated with command and control centre project of the corporation.

According to an official from CSCL the commuters are not happy at present because of the lack of accurate details regarding the time of arrival of the buses and details regarding the route numbers and destination are not there fully. Soon this would change and the commuters would feel happy regarding the information available at the digital signboards.

The official of CSCL also spoke about the presence of GPS in many MTC buses in Chennai and said that the accuracy about the arrival times and departure times of buses would increase.

One important piece of information is the project would be extended to all the depots present in Chennai and the depots chosen for installation are tentative. It is now revealed that the detailed project report would be out soon and the cost estimate is being worked out.

It is worthy to note that MTC has got around 4000 buses and these buses carry as many as 5 million passengers every day and Broadway is the largest terminus.
