Plan to introduce the facility for issue of Aadhar number in Post Offices

Plans are afoot to introduce the facility of issuing Aadhar numbers in Post Offices. The Post Master General, Mails and Development, Tamil Nadu Postal Circle, Mr. J.D Venkateswarlu, informed that the facility to issue Aadhar cards numbers and to edit the details in the Aadhar card is set to be introduced in the Post Offices.15 Head Post Offices and 2515 Branch Post Offices have been selected to introduce this service.

The Head Post Offices in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai Trichy, Kovai, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Kanyakumari, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, and Madurai will be shortly set up with the facility to register Aadhar card details.

In the Branch Offices, the facility correct wrong details in Aadhar card can be done. Example – Name correction, Address correction, Introduction of mobile phone number, etc.

2 employees from each Post Office are to be given the training to carry out these services. 100 employees have already been trained. They will train others. Biometric equipment will be procured for registering Aadhar card numbers. An expense of Rs. 80 Lakhs is estimated for the implementation of this facility. Once the funds are allotted, the facility will soon be implemented.
