Significance of Akshaya Tritiya

Among the most important days in the Hindu calendar and mythology is Akshaya Tritiya. This day falls on the 3rd day of bright half of Vaishakha which is between end of April and starting of May. It is during this period that the sun and moon are positioned in exalted places and are at the top of their respective brightness.
 
This happens just once a year. This is believed as an ideal time to kick-start any new endeavor. There are several mythological legends been spoken of on this day. Many happenings including descending of sacred river Ganga from the heaven, birth of 6th incarnation of Lord Parashurama, unlimited food for the Pandavas from Akshaya Patra, Lord Krishna’s blessings to Sudama, etc.
 
According to its Sanskrit meaning of the word Akshaya, it is called imperishable. All fruits borne on Akshaya Tritiya will keep on multiplying. It is for this reason that it is believed that beginning any new venture such as business or making self-improvement will get positively successful. The lord Vishnu will preserve every beginning made on this day.
 
People show great interest in buying or wearing gold which is unanimously believed as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. On this day, wearing or buying gold will absorb wealth and bring goddess Lakshmi to the households. These days is also considered auspicious for buying gold or silver or invest in real estate, or buy diamond or other precious stones or shares or bonds.
