Tamil Nadu chief minister E. Palanisamy and the central minister Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the public service of the Chennai Metro Rail section between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park.
The first phase of the underground tunnel track between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park has been completed a few months ago. Test runs were conducted sucessfully. The Southern Region Railway Safety Commissioner undertook the thorough inspection of the tunnel work in all safety aspects.
As the safety features were satisfactory, the safety commissioner declared the section ok for public service.
The Chennai Metro informed the central and the state government about starting the public service in this section.
So, the stage is set for the public service has started between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park from today (Sunday, 14th May).
In the inaugural function Tamil Nadu chief minister E. Palanisamy and central urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu are participated and flagged off the service.
They also inaugurated the 7 railway stations in this section - Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappa College, Kilpauk, and Nehru Park.
Chennai Metro has already been operating services in the elevated corridor between Airport-Little Mount-Koyambedu.
