Those travelling from Chennai Egmore to Trichy may find the travel time reduced by 33 percent, as the doubling along this route is completed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. The engineering wing of Indian Railways had commissioned the 20-km stretch on 23rd May between Valadi and Trichy. The maximum speed of the train in this route will be 100kmph and there will be stoppages as well. The average speed of travel shall be 75kmph, said an official.
In just 4 hours, the 334 km journey will get over. At present, the travel time is between 5 and 7 hours. Rockfort Express, a renowned overnight train consumes 6.30 hours whereas Pandian Express takes 5.25 hours. There are discussions on the go regarding reducing the running time of trains by 20 to 30 minutes. In general, in October month, these changes in running time take place. However, as the doubling work is done, we may revise the timing in one month.
It is possible for us to reduce the running time because line doubling has reduced total number of stations. A few stretches have just one line. The maximum section speed of the 100kmph is achieved in about 3 to 4 months period, said an official.
