New pattern for car traffic in Airport, say AAI officials

As the Airports Authority of India is likely to introduce a new pattern for traffic for cars within a month, driving in and out of the airport will soon become a hassle-free experience. There is no need to worry about congestion or the parking fees when they are to drive out within just 10 minutes.

With the new revised plan, there will be 2 entries for all vehicles arriving at the domestic and international departures. These are routed through the new ramps which are linked to flyovers present at the front side of the terminal.

In one month, the new traffic pattern shall be launched. We will have a meeting with the police and the CISF to make them aware of the new changes, says the airport director G Chandramouli.

This initiative is actually a part of airport expansion plan. A few months ago, the ramps connected to the road to flyover got ready. However, AAI wanted the initiative to be on hold until the metro station works got wrapped up and the train services commence.

With the new system, traffic congestion can be reduced during early morning and night hours along the city side of the airport. So, the cars will now have to go via domestic and international departure terminals after the passengers are dropped at the airport exit.
