The CMDA senior officials informed that the construction activities to set up a new bus terminus at Kilambakkam near Vandalur will commence in September.

Earlier, the existing Koyambedu Bus Terminus was constructed by CMDA as a step towards reducing the traffic congestion in Chennai Metro City. Most of the buses leaving for other districts and other states depart from this Koyambedu Bus Terminus. Apart from, there is a separate Omnibus station here.

After setting up of Koyambedu Bus Terminus, during the past few years, the traffic has grown larger and again, severe traffic congestions are experienced.

As a measure to solve this problem, it has been proposed to set up a new bus terminus station in Kilambakkam, near Vandalur, for all buses leaving for the southern districts. The responsibility for this project had been entrusted to CMDA.

Subsequently, lands of 88 acres have been acquired by CMDA and the 1st Phase activities had been taken up. The foundation ceremony for the new bus terminus is scheduled during the 1st week of September. The construction activities will start immediately after.

A CMDA review committee meeting was conducted recently. The State Minister for Housing Development, Udumalai Radhakrishnan participated. He advised that the construction of this bus terminus must be expedited and completed quickly.

Subsequently, CMDA officials are checking about any other constructions for other fields of industry are coming up in this area. Further, plans are being prepared for the laying of link roads to the proposed Bus terminus.

Once these activities are completed, the foundation ceremony is being planned to be conducted in the 1st week of September.

Once Kilambakkam Bus terminus starts functioning, there would be a great reduction in the heavy traffic congestion encountered in the Koyambedu region at present.
