A change in rule for Amma 2-wheeler scheme - LLR enough

The Tamil Nadu Corporation For Development of Women Ltd has ordered a change in the rules for the Amma 2-wheeler Scheme that it would be sufficient for the applicant to hold a Learner License Registration (LLR).

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the Amma 2-wheeler scheme for the working women. The free application forms for this is available in the offices of the district collectors, and the offices of the Corporations. City administration, the  Panchayat administration and the offices of the regional Development.

The filled applications can be submitted before 5th February in the above offices. Please note that these applications cannot be submitted in the E-service centres.

The applicants must be women in the age group 18-40. They have to buy 2-wheelers with 125 cc capacity or less. They can also buy the 2-wheeler for the differently-ables persons.

The annual income should not exceed Rs. 2.5 Lakhs. The applicant should possess a driving license (as per the announced rules).

However, in the Motor Vehicles Act, it is not specifically mentioned that the person buying a car must have a driving licence. It takes up to 40 days to get a fresh driving licence. So, as at present, there is not sufficient to time apply for the driving licence and getting it.

In the above light, there has been discontent and disappointment among the women, This rule demanding driving licence has limited even the genuine cases being deprived to avail this benefit.

When enquiring about this to the officials working in the Tamil Nadu Corporation For Development of Women Ltd which functions under the rural development department, they explained that this rule has since been changed that the applicants need have only the LLR, Action has been initiated to correct the applications accordingly.
