On Tuesday, 23rd June 2020, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. E. Palaniswami inaugurated a compressed biogas plant at Namakkal through video conferencing. This inauguration was done in the presence of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan.
As many as 5 CBG retail outlets were als inaugurated by the chief minister in places like Namakkal, Salem, Puduchathiram and Rasipuram. It is important to note that the compressed biogas plant or CBG belongs to IOT which is a joint venture between India based IOC and Germany based GmbH.
It was later mentioned by the CM that IOT has got a biogas plant at Namakkal for an investment of Rs 34 crores. Information is from this biogas plant CBG would be made. He then shed light on how the new plant could make 15 tonnes of CBG per day and 20 tonnes of bio-manure per day.
The TN chief minister highlighted the importance of clean energy and wanted more such steps would be undertaken in TN. He assured that his government would support such steps of GOI for the sake of clean energy.
Important piece of information is the state of TN leads in the generation of renewable energy with a total capacity of 15876 MW. Out of this total capacity, hydro is 2322 MW, wind 8523 MW, solar 4054 MW, biomass 266 MW and cogeneration711 MW. It is revealed that 2 combined cycle gas turbine projects would be established in and around Chennai for meeting the power demand in Chennai.
