Areas were multi-storeyed buildings are not permitted in Chennai

A member-secretary of the CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) council had submitted a letter proposing certain changes in the rules and regulations of the present system.

Further, as per the recent presentation made by the Deputy Chief Minister in the Legislative Assembly, he had proposed certain changes regarding the construction of multi-storeyed buildings in certain areas of the city likely to be put up for the approval from the state government.

Subsequently, in a recent government order, the Chief Secretary of the state government department of Housing and Urban development has informed that the construction of multi-storeyed will NOT be permitted in the following areas:

  • The stretch of the area covering from the Cooum River starting near the Park Railway Station to the Napier’s Bridge (the estuary of the Cooum river) in the area by the Islands Grounds.

  • This will also apply to the Red Hills area covering water storage areas.
