People in Chennai welcomed New Year with huge enthusiasm. The Chennai beaches were filled with lots of people on the occasion of the New Year and exchanged New Year greetings with each other.
Since last night, NY celebrations started across Chennai with thousands of young men and women visiting the beaches in Chennai like Marina Beach, Besant Nagar beach, Thiruvanmiyur beach, Palavakkam beach etc. The young Chennai residents roamed on the roads of OMR and ECR in Chennai on their bikes and cars etc.
Many residents have already booked star hotels, farm houses and hotels along the ECR etc for celebrating the New Year with their near and dear ones. At 12pm midnight, the Chennaites who gathered along the beaches and roads chanted Happy New Year and exchanged greetings with each other. Many even cut cakes with their friends yesterday.
Every year, on the occasion of NY, many unwanted incidents take place on the roads, hotels etc in Chennai. To avoid these, 19000 police personnel were deployed. Surveillance was intensified along the beaches in Chennai to prevent the residents from swimming or bathing in the sea.
It is known that the police dept has already issued warning to those vehicle owners who drink and create nuisance that their vehicles would be confiscated. In this regard, strict action was taken on those who violated the rules.
Moreover, in 12 police districts in Chennai at 425 locations, vehicle inspection teams were stationed to monitor these places. Police security was provided to places of worship like temples, churches, and mosques etc. The flyovers were closed and the police personnel engaged in the surveillance. It is known that traffic arrangements have been made in Chennai in advance on the occasion of New Year celebrations.
