The government hospitals in Chennai have been witnessing a sharp spike in the number of viral infections and fever cases now after the recent rains. Many people with influenza, leptospirosis, viral fever, malaria have been coming to the government hospitals in the city. As the kids could get affected by these fast, the doctors have cautioned parents to take extra precautions. Patients show various symptoms like fever, chills, cough, throat infections etc. It must be noted that dry cough would take about 2 weeks to recover and it is a distinct symptom.
According to Dr. S. Chandrasekar, HOD, General Medicine, SMCH in north Chennai, all types of viral infections have been increasing since last month. He added that the recovery period especially for throat infections after fever has been taking a long time. He concluded that patients with lung issues or kidney issues or liver issues etc must take precautions to avoid getting affected.
In the monsoon season, there are more chances of food and water contamination and hence food and water consumption outside must be avoided. Dean of KMCH, Dr. Leo David explained that there has been a seasonal increase in the fever cases now. He threw light on early diagnosis to avoid health complications.
Basic hygiene and isolation are very important to avoid the spread of infections. This was as per some officials belonging to the state health dept. It is necessary to wash hands plus wear face masks etc to prevent viral infections from spreading.
The decrease in Coronavirus cases now has led to decrease in the use of facemasks now. It is necessary to wear facemasks to avoid viral infections also. This was according to an official. He added that even family members who are infected must wear facemasks and isolate themselves to prevent transmission of the infections.
