The state government of Tamil Nadu originally proposed 30% additional entertainment tax and reduced it to 10% after strong protests from the film industry. Even after this, the film industry protested against the 10% and demanded it must be withdrawn. They decided to block the release of new films and implemented the same.

Meanwhile, discussions were being held between the government and the film industry representatives over the last few days.

An information was gathered that the government was ready to reduce the 10% only by 2% during the initial stages of the discussion. And was further thinking and planning about a 5% reduction following the overwhelming unanimous demand from the entire film industry.

In this situation, it is informed that the government is now decided to reduce the tax only by 2%. So, the additional entertainment tax will now be 8%.

Actor and the President of the Film Producers’ Council, Vishal, announced this to the press reporters after the discussion. It is learned that Vishal has thanked the government for the reduction of 2%.

Vishal further informed that the theatres must not indulge in increasing the tickets rate even by Re.1 above the rate now fixed by the state government. And the snacks sold in the theatre must be at the price mentioned as MRP on the packet and not anything more than that. In case this is violated, stringent action will be taken.
