On Tuesday, 8th of April 2025, the announcement regarding the grant of approval came out. The application was examined for 7 long months before the grant of approval came out.

What is going to happen now?

At a mammoth cost of Rs 27400 crores, the second airport at Parandur would be constructed and there would be 3 mid-field airport terminal buildings. This Parandur airport would be about 42kms from the existing Meenambakkam airport. The airport would be constructed in phases and phase 1 project cost would be Rs 11445 cr.

By January 2026, TIDCO would start the construction works of the Parandur airport and would complete the works in another 2 years. The second airport would be constructed on a vast piece of land of 2172.72 hectares and there would be 2 parallel runways at this airport.

According to some sources, the airport has been planned for code 4F and future aircraft trend requirements. Information gathered is that the phase 1 terminal would be present over an area of 351380 sqm.

It was brought out that nearly 95 percent of the tender has been drafted and few more things would have to be finalised. Point is that the tender would be sent to the Ministry for Civil Aviation as per the procedure. Tenders would be floated after receiving the go ahead signal.
