Chennai: The northeast monsoon continues to bring heavy rains to various parts of Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a severe depression has formed in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to move in a north-northwesterly direction. It is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm later today or tomorrow, before weakening and crossing the coast as a deep depression.

In anticipation of heavy rainfall, the IMD has issued warnings for the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. Consequently, district administrations in Cuddalore and Villupuram have declared holidays for all schools and colleges tomorrow (29.11.2024).

Meanwhile, schools in Puducherry and Karaikal districts have already been closed following warnings of potential flash floods.

Holidays are also expected to be announced in other districts where rain alerts have been issued.

Emergency response teams have been deployed, and disaster management authorities are prepared to address any challenges arising from the adverse weather conditions.
